چکیده

In this paper, we study the problem of incremental maintenance of materialized views when the view deenitions are allowed to contain: (a) constraints, and (b) well-founded modes of negation. A materialized view in our framework consists of a set of constrained non-ground tuples. We develop incremental algorithms to compute such non-ground materialized well-founded views, extending previous results of Gottlob et. al. and Eiter et. al. With respect to (b), previous attempts at view maintenance have been limited to the case when stratiied negation is used. In contrast, in this paper, we allow arbitrary (stratiied and/or unstratiied) usage of negation. Recursive views are also allowed. We develop a view maintenance algorithm called WF-Red for handling updates in such cases. WF-Red takes two parameters as input { a list of insertions and a list of deletions. To handle insertions, the list of deletions is kept empty and vice-versa. The algorithm correctly handles both insertions and deletions to the materialized view.

An Approach for Selection and Maintenance of Materialized View in Data Warehousing

Quick response time and accuracy are important factors in the success of any database. In large databases particularly in distributed database, query response time plays an important role as timely access to information and it is the basic requirement of successful business application. A data warehouse uses multiple materialized views to efficiently process a given set of queries. The material...

Incremental Maintenance of dynamic Datalog programs

This paper is an extended abstract of [5], which discusses the incremental maintenance of materialized ontologies in a rule-enabled Semantic Web. The reader may wonder how this relates to Datalog, a language that has been proposed in the deductive database context. However, the semantics underlying Web ontology languages can often be realized by translating the ontology into appropriate Datalog...

Incremental Maintenance of Materialized Ontologies

This paper discusses the incremental maintenance of materialized ontologies in a rule-enabled Semantic Web. Materialization allows to speed up query processing by explicating the implicit entailments which are sanctioned by the semantics of an ontology. The complexity of reasoning with the ontology is thereby shifted from query time to update time. We assume that materialization techniques will...

MOVIE: An incremental maintenance system for materialized object views

View materialization is an important technique for high performance query processing, data integration and replication. Solutions to the problem of incrementally maintaining materialized views are very relevant. So far, most work on this problem has been confined to relational settings and solutions have not been comprehensively evaluated. This paper describes MOVIE, a complete, implemented and...

An Algebraic Approach to Materialized Views Maintenance in Object Databases

View materialization is an important technique for data warehousing, high performance query processing, and OLAP. Materialized views (MVs) are derived from base extents that may not be local. Queries can be answered using MVs more quickly than using the base extents. However, MVs may be affected by updates to the base extents. MVs can either be re-computed or incrementally updated to reflect th...
